If you have seen guitarists performing throughout the worlds stages you sometimes see a performer using a guitar that is in a stand. It looks a bit awkward perhaps visually compared to all of the guitar slinging images of guitar heroes in the best stance in some sort of communion with their guitar.
Leaving this issue aside, there are many practical reasons to use one in a performance or even practice situation. On one note, if you are doubling on other instruments such as piano or primarily singing, this allows you to jump right into the guitar for even a few moments in a song without missing a beat. Also performers whom have had the misfortune to suffer from back and other related medical issues find it easier to play without injuring themselves further, or in some cases, the walk up guitar stand makes this possible.
For many years people enjoyed using the Gracie walk up guitar stand. Recently however, it seems that this company has gone out of business. K&M makes 2 wonderful models for both acoustic and electric guitars which are great. So next time you find your self needing to switch instruments quickly on stage or have a back that just does not enjoy playing guitar all that much, try a walk up guitar stand!
